PSTN switch-off · Isle of Wight
Copper phone lines, ISDN and older phone systems are being retired across the UK. We check every device on your lines and move you to digital before the deadline, with a local engineer and no downtime.
The hidden risk
Most business owners assume the switch-off only affects the phones on their desks. In practice, anything connected to a copper phone line can stop working, and those are often the things nobody thinks about until they fail.
A switch-off audit finds every one of them before your line goes dead.
Desk phones and older phone systems plugged into analogue or ISDN lines.
Payment terminals that still dial out over a phone line.
Security and fire alarms that signal the monitoring centre over copper, including older Redcare-style lines.
Gate and door systems that call a phone line when someone buzzes.
The auto-dialler in the lift car that connects to the rescue service.
Alarm units in care settings and sheltered housing that call for help over a phone line.
Fax machines and call diverts set up on the old network.
Older franking machines that connect over a phone line to top up and report.
Why island Telecom
A national VoIP provider will move your phones and leave you to chase the alarm company, the door-entry installer and the card-machine provider yourself. We install phone systems, structured cabling, CCTV and connectivity, so we can sort every device on the line in one visit.
We install Yeastar P-Series phone systems with Yealink handsets, set up and tested before we arrive, so your phones work from day one on your desk or in the app on your mobile. Your numbers come with you, and where it helps, we'll combine old lines into one digital service to cut your line rental.
We're Island-based and trusted by hospitals, schools and cruise ships, where downtime isn't an option. When something needs changing, it's an engineer who already knows your site, not a call centre.
Your free audit
An Island engineer comes to your premises at a time that suits you.
Phones, card machines, alarms, door entry, lifts, fax — everything on a copper line.
What needs moving, the options, and the prices. You decide what happens next.
The old network closes. Businesses who planned ahead don't notice the day it happens.
Common questions
Openreach is retiring the old copper phone network (PSTN and ISDN) across the UK, with the national deadline set for 31 January 2027. Some local exchanges stop taking new orders or migrate earlier, so it's worth checking your lines now rather than in January.
Anything that relies on a traditional copper phone line: desk phones on old lines, some card machines, monitored alarms, door entry and intercoms, lift emergency lines, fax machines, franking machines and personal alarms or telecare units. Many businesses only find out when one of these goes quiet.
Yes. We port your existing numbers across to the new service, so customers call the same number they always have.
Not always. Some existing systems can be adapted to run on digital lines. If a replacement makes more sense, we install Yeastar P-Series systems with Yealink handsets, on-premise or hosted. We'll tell you plainly which fits your site.
Digital phones need power, unlike old copper lines. For anything critical, like lift lines, alarms or telecare, we plan battery backup and 4G/5G backup so a power cut or broadband fault doesn't leave you without a line.
It's free with no obligation. We visit your premises, check every device connected to a phone line, and give you a written plan with prices. You decide what happens next.
Yes. Our engineers are Island-based and cover every town, from Ryde and Cowes to Ventnor and Freshwater.
